Children at Piazza castello

Last Sunday, there was an event where there were games at piazza Castello for children to play with, fortunately the weather was very fine and the children got to play with the fountains happily.
It is a joy to watch children play and laugh without any worry.

Villa della Regina

The Villa della Regina is a palace outside the city of Turin, Italy. It was originally built by the House of Savoy in the 17th century. (Actually now it is not really considered outside of Turin, it is just across of the river Po, half way up the hill.)
Damaged in the Second World War, it is today open to the public in order to fund its maintenance.

Via Po

Via Po is a street where we love to take a walk, usually in the evening, it starts from Piazza castello and leads all the way to the river Po and is near to the cinema museum La Mole and the university, also there are various kind of shops along the street. The crowds are usually interesting, young people going to the pubs or disco nearby, students who live near to the university, families going shopping along the street, and often one can spot some very camp or fashionable people moving along the street. As compared to Via Roma, I find it to be more fascinating and relaxing.

Just some photos of the football fans of the Great Toro on the street celebrating the returning to Serie A of the Toro.

Street Painter

Often we can see people present their painting done on the floor along the arches in Turin center. Some of them are not really impressive, often they just draw the figure of Madonna or Jesus so as to hope the faithful catholics will offer them some money, occasionally, we find some really interesting and skillful works done, which leave you feeling pity that the next day this piece of art would be gone.

Il Grande Torino ("The Great Torino")

The Toro ( Torino Football Club ) is officially promoted to serie A. All the die hard fans were gathered in the center of Turin to celebrate, and again, the players came into town on a open top bus, and again I stayed on my balcony and watched.
Toro has been bouncing from serie A to serie B and from serie B back to serie A, lets hope this time they can stay in serie A for good, I do hope so.

Torino Football Club, commonly referred to as simply Torino, is a professional Italian football club based in Turin, Piedmont, that was founded in 1906 (refounded in 2005). The club has spent most of its history in the top tier in Italian football. Torino, who play in claret (Italian : granata) shirts with white shorts, have won Serie A seven times, first in 1927–28 and most recently in 1975–76. They have also won the Coppa Italia five times. On the European stage, the nearest Torino came to success was when they finished as runners-up in the UEFA Cup; this was achieved in 1991–92. Historically, Torino are the joint fifth most successful club in Italian football in terms of championships won. The club was known as Associazione Calcio Torino until 1970, and as Torino Calcio from 1970 to 2005.

Torino's traditional rivals are their crosstown neighbours Juventus, with whom they contest the Derby della Mole. While Juventus has a more widespread support internationally, Torino's fan base tends to be more localized. The derby between Torino and Juventus does not have the international standing of the Milan's derby, but is strongly felt in Turin and Italy. Juventus is the team with more supporters in the Bel Paese, but Torino is the Turin area's first team. The mixture is explosive, and in the years when the teams meet, the atmosphere is always hot with frequent riots. In memory of the victims of bombs in Brindisi

3 bombs exploded in front of a school in Brindisi, killed one girl and another is seriously injured, plus some other injured victims .
By now, no one is sure if it was the act of mafia or someone esle. No matter what, losing an innocent life in such violent act, no cause can be justified. Indeed is a sad day in Italy.

Candles were lighted and words were written at Piazza San carlo in memory of the innocent life lost.

Man sitting outside the bar alone

There is a new bar under my block, on their openning day, my friend came to me and said: Oh so funny, they have this man wearing a mask sitting outside the bar.
The second day, he came and told me: The guy is still wearing a mask, but he is sitting inside the bar now.
The third day, I walked past the bar, for sure, there was this man sitting just outside the bar with a hat on and some sort of a mask like that of Zorro. Strange enough, he was not moving at all and he was all alone. Actually he was a mannequin, of course now he is still a mannequin sitting alone in the closed bar.

Juventus champion celebration parade

Last evening Juventus team rode on an open top vehicle passed on the street right under my block. I am glad I didn't have to get down to watch the parade, just had to stay on my balcony and watched. This was the first time, I had ever seen so many people on this street, waving, shouting, singing, taking photo....what I can say is the passion and the joy of the fans are contagious, although I am not really a football fan still I couldn't help but felt proud and appreciated the winning of Juventus.

Juventus 2012 Champion of Italy Cup

Juventus is the champion of 2012 Italy Cup, the fans have been waiting for this moment for 6 years. There was a huge celebration in town, since in the morning, fans were already started to gather in the center of Turin, ready to show their support and appreciation for the winner.

No 10! The number of Juventus captain, Alex Del Piero.

The first parliament of the kingdom of Italy

In palazzo Madama, the historic site of Turin, the first parliament of the Kingdom of Italy was reconstructed .

The possibility of visiting this place, although rebuilt, is rather meaningful and valuable especially after the commemorations for the 150 th anniversary of the unification of Italy.

Moon at perigee

I didn't manage to capture a shot of the super moon, neither did I see it on that actual day, it was raining and cloudy in Turin. However, two nights later, while I was walking around the town, the moon caught my eyes, it was high up in the sky, surrounded by some clouds, was shining through via Po.

Street at night

The street leading to the town hall, often on Saturdays or Sundays, there is a market along the street and the piazza in front of the town hall. At night, the almost deserted street presents another kind of beauty....

Raining nite at piazza Castello

Last week had been rather watery, raining, raining days and nites....Not so good for taking a walk around, but I am always fascinated by how the street lights reflected on the wet ground and couldn't resist to snap a few photo.

This was taken while sheltering from the rain under the arch on the side of piazza Castello.

Torino Jazz festival

The Torino Jazz festival had finished last week, during the festival the weather was not so kind, was raining almost throughout the whole festival. Even that, didn't stop the Jazz lovers from attending the free Jazz concert at piazza Castello, it made quite an impression seeing all these people standing in front of the stage, sheltering themselves under the umbrellas.
