San Giovanni Firework

Today Torino celebrate the festa of San Giovanni which is the guarding Sant of the city, since yesterday there was the parade and tonight, as usual they celebrate with firework. We had to wait till the football match of Italy against England to finish before they started the firework, that is how crazy italians are  about football, even their Sant has to step aside for the football game!

Two days ago, a sudden storm left the whole torino wet and messy, but the wet ground at the piazza provieded a unique scene for photo.

After The Storm

This evening, came a distructive rain and hailstorm, lasted for about 15 to 20 minutes, enough to tear away 15 blossoming flowers of my 4 tomatoes plants, and brought down a construction fence of a renovation work site next to piazza San carlo, causing the whole street to be closed.

Pride Torino 2012

Yesterday was the Pride parade Torino 2012, italian GLBT are still fighting for their right to get married, thus the main theme of this year Pride. Why two persons in love got to be interfered by others whether they can get married or not is just ridiculous.....

Lets hope their fight resulted in something concrete and not just bubbles.....

Sunset Apericena

Apéritif is usually served before main meal to stimulate the appetite....
In Italy, the italians actually like to take it as a meal, the aperitive at dinner time is called Apericena. In summer or whenever the temperature is warm enough, bars or pubs will have their tables set outside in the open and people will have a drink for about 7 - 10 euro with the buffet food included. 

Four-leaf clover

The four-leaf clover is an uncommon variation of the common, three-leaved clover. According to tradition, such leaves bring good luck to their finders, especially if found accidentally. According to legend, each leaf represents something: the first is for faith, the second is for hope, the third is for love, and the fourth is for luck.

 Found a few four leaf clovers in my various flower pots, and also a few 5 leaf clovers....

Traffic concert Torino

A 3 days free concert, Traffic was held at piazza San Carlo.
The Traffic Festival is a free music festival held annually in Turin since 2004. The festival usually takes place in July and is divided over several evenings, with concerts in locations around the city and local parks. The epicenter of the festival, where concerts are held major, was from 2004 to 2008 Park Pellerina. From 2009 to 2010 the concerts were moved to the gardens of Venaria, while in 2011 and 2012 the focus of the event was Piazza San Carlo.

The 2012 edition was held in Turin, 7 to 9 June, earlier than previous years' editions. The main locations were again the central Piazza San Carlo, and the new Molodiciotto, at corso Moncalieri, and the pub blahblah at Via Po.

 
The theme of this year, as for the occasion of  2012 Olympics, was London: the majority of artists, in fact, came from the British capital, and the Italian groups presented, however, resumed the british tone: from electropop of the Drink To Me to the  indie rock of Foxhound.
Even the projected films at blahblah were centered on London, with films such as Sid and Nancy, Breakfast on Pluto or This Is England.

Colourful Via Garibaldi

Not sure why, the other night passed by via Garibaldi, heard someone singing and one part of the building along the street was illuminated with colour changing lights. Although I live right in the city center, but often I don't know what events are going on in the center until accidently walking into them while taking a walk around.

Procession of the Blessed Sacrament at Torino

The Feast of Corpus Christi (Latin for Body of Christ) is a Latin Rite liturgical solemnity celebrating the tradition and belief in the physical body and blood of Jesus Christ and his Real Presence in the Eucharist. It emphasizes the joy of the institution of the Eucharist, which was observed on Holy Thursday in the somber atmosphere of the nearness of Good Friday.
In the present Roman Missal, the feast is designated the solemnity of The Most Holy Body and Blood of Christ. It is also celebrated in some Anglican, Lutheran and Old Catholic Churches who hold similar beliefs regarding the Real Presence.
The feast is liturgically celebrated either on the Thursday after Trinity Sunday or, "where the Solemnity of the Most Holy Body and Blood of Christ is not a Holy Day of Obligation, it is assigned to the Sunday after the Most Holy Trinity as its proper day". At the end of Holy Mass, there is often a procession of the Blessed Sacrament, generally displayed in a monstrance. The procession is followed by Benediction of the Blessed Sacrament.

Exhibition of the 15° CinemAmbiente festival

It was actually the 15° CinemAmbiente festival in Turin, the festival was held at cinema Massimo. On Sunday there was an exhibition regarding the environment around the outside of the cinema. It was interesting and provided a great opportunity to make some shots of the colourful flowers on display and on sale, at the end we bought two pots of Surfinia.

Festa della Republica

The Festa della Repubblica is celebrated on the second day of June, and it commemorates the institutional referendum of 1946 when (by universal suffrage) the Italian population was called to decide what form of government (monarchy or republic) to give to the country after World War II and the fall of Fascism.
After 85 years of monarchy, with 12,717,923 votes for and 10,719,284 votes against, Italy became a Republic, and the monarchs of the House of Savoy were deposed and exiled. This is one of the most important Italian public holidays which, like 14 July in France and 4 July in the USA, celebrates the birth of the nation. A grand military parade is held in central Rome.

City Hall of Turin

City Hall of  Turin, the building itself isn't so much glamour as other historical buildings of the city, but with the piazza in front of it, the overall view can be quite fascinating, often weekend market is held at piazza.

Porta Palatina

The Palatine Towers (Italian: Porte Palatine; Piedmontese: Tor Roman-e) is an ancient Roman-medieval structure in Turin, Italy. The structure served as one of four Roman city gates, which allowed access from north to the cardus maximus, the typical second main street of a Roman town. They are located near the Duomo di Torino and Palazzo Reale.
In its current appearance, the building comprise two polygonal towers, of sixteen sides each, and a central gate. Only the latter is an original Roman structure, the towers having been added in the following years. The merlons are from 1404.

The name Porta Palazzo comes from the Latin Porta Palatii (“gate of the palace”), referring to the connected Imperial Palace, which housed numerous historical figures, including the Lombard kings and Charlemagne, and was later the seat of the communal authorities.
During the early eighteenth-century period of urban reconstruction in Turin, the gate was preserved only through the personal intervention of architect Antonio Bertola. It was one of the few ancient landmarks to be saved from destruction.
