Vandalism

The statue of the king Vittorio Emanuele II at the town hall is stained with black paint and messages like ' BLM' were written around that area.
 I totally support 'BLM',in fact, I think all lives matter.

The protests lead to destroying statues, have becoming just pure vandalization. Many of these statues have historical value, as well as artistic value, by destroying them just stained the real purpose of the protest.

Lock Down The Twenty Seventh Day

The 27th day, Sunday, Palm Sunday.

Beautiful day, heard that there are quite many people walking on the street, which is normal for a Sunday and especially on the Palm Sunday when people go to the church to get the olive branches. But now we are in a lockdown.

Looking out from the balcony, there are some people walking around, some even went into the church nearby, yet no one is carrying any olive branches....

The other day, on the way to the pharmacy when I passed by the town hall, there wasn't anymore the  people who passed by in front of the townhall endlessly. Even the guards used to be by the door have disappeared.

There were a total of 3 men I saw that day :
One was walking his dog, one with face mask was crossing rather quickly and one who was strolling under the arcade relaxingly, occasionally he stopped to look at the shop windows.

Last night, several group of people disobedienced the lockdown and tired to 'smuggle' to Liguria, to their vacation house by the seaside. They were intercepted half way, reported and sent back to home.
Heard that they are many people who couldn't resist the temptation of the beauty of the Spring, so they decided to get out to the streets to have a nice walk.

If there is any consequence to such reckless behavior, I am afraid they will not be the only one who has to pay for the price....

Palazzo Civico, current name of the ancient Palazzo di Città, is the seat of the town hall of the city of Turin. It overlooks the square which takes its name from its original name and which, before the last eighteenth-century settlement, was known by the name of Piazza delle Erbe.

The current municipal building was designed by the architect Francesco Lanfranchi (1663), following the baroque designs of Emanuele Tesauro, right on the site of the previous municipal building, with a medieval layout. In 1659, Lanfranchi was commissioned to design and build a new headquarters for the city authority, right on the square then called "delle Erbe" which, a century later, Benedetto Alfieri transformed into the current Piazza Palazzo di Città. In the middle of that year, the first stone was laid by the archbishop of Turin, Giulio Cesare Bergera, in the presence of Duke Carlo Emanuele II and his mother, Madame Reale Cristina of France and in 1663 the works were finished.

Compared to today, the building was more narrow, without the elevation where the clock is displayed, and with a large coat of arms of the Savoy-Orléans, flanked by bronze lions, works that were destroyed by the Jacobins in 1799.

 
In the following century the palace was extensively remodeled by Benedetto Alfieri, who added the two wings, overlooking Via Garibaldi and Via Corte d'Appello, so that the small square behind it, called "del Butirro" was incorporated as a courtyard.  

Further modifications were made by the architects Francesco Valeriano Dellala of Beinasco, Luigi Barberis and Filippo Castelli.

Piazza Municipio Night View

Piazza Municipio AKA piazza Palazzo Di Città, is the piazza in front of the town hall. Often during the weekends, market selling typical piedmont's products was held in the piazza, at night the illuminated palazzi around the piazza provide a rather impressive view.

Peru Dancers

Not sure what was the occasion, but last Sunday morning, the Peruvians community gathered in the piazza in front of the town hall and dance. Must be some celebration.....

Victims

Tunisia's Bardo museum attack by terrorists took 4 Italian's lives.  They were all cruise passengers of the Costa Fascinosa who visited the museum as part of the tour.
The two innocent victims from Piedmont were placed in the town hall for people to pay their respect and final farewell.

Just A Bit Of Snow

It started to snow at about 0900 hours, fine, tiny snow which immediately melted once it touched the ground, and by evening, the snow had already turned into rain....

A group of couples got married on a special day, the Festa of San Giovanni....

Hollow Promises

Saw this statue at the town hall, looking at the seemed like piece of scroll he held in his hand and couldn't help to notice the hollow. It made me think of the Italy politicians who are launching their election campaign, lots of hollow promises should be expected.
