Bridge Of Vana

There are two bridges in Ceres, one old and one new. Both are named Ponte della Vana, the old one is an ancient bridge built on the rocks and surrounded by woods.

And this is the bridge in the hamlet of Vana, which for almost 300 years has crossed the Stura, the main stream of the Valli di Lanzo. With the characteristic humpback structure, it was built in stone in 1740.

Cat House

Along the river, walking on the side of Lungo po Antonelli can be very pleasant, as the view to the other side of the river is beautiful. 

During the recent walk, I noticed that there is a house built for cats on the slope on the river bank. It is fenced to protect the cats privacy, I guess and it seems to be built by the association 'Gattagora'', Apparently, they are also looking to keep track of a black cat who may or may not be a resident of that cat house.

Drying Up Po

Turin had quite a long time without rain, and the rivers were slowly drying up, especially the main river Po, the water level was so low.

Luckily, it started to rain few days ago, and according to weather forecast, it might be rainly for some more days, hopefully not up into the week when Turin is hosting the EuroVision.

Two Pigeons In Autumn

Just two pigeons enjoying the autumn view by the river.

 

The pigeons are nice when they are not coming to you to ask for food and of course when they don't create hygiene issues....

Bird On A Branch

Walking along the river Po, saw this big bird, maybe is an heron resting on a branch by the river.

 

Without a long enough zoom, it was quite difficult to capture a shot, and basically I had only one chance to make the photo, because by then it would discover that someone is pointing something towards it and by instinct, it would fly away. 

That was what happened exactly, just one click and it flew away.

He rode his bycicles all the way to the river, sat himself down near close to the edge of the river and started to send his admiration for the river via instant messenger....

Proud Mamma Duck

A mamma duck presents her 9 little ducklings to the public along Murazzi. I think they nest at the embarking point for the river cruise which is now closed down due to the sinking of the two cruise boats.

Their appearance created a little excitement for the people taking a walk along the river Po at Murazzi.

More and more people go fishing at the river Po

Innocent Death

23rd of Februay, morning at about 11 o'clock,  along Murazzi on the river bank of Po, a young man had his throat cut from someone behind and killed.
The killer ran away toward piazza Vittorio and the young man tried to get to the street for help, but he was too injured, he stumbled and died.

After about 2 months, a guy confessed that he had killed the young man, and it was a random kill, or rather a random selection. 

The man just wanted to kill someone on that particular day, so he bought the knife and sat on the bench along the river and waited. Then, he saw the young man walking by, and he decided that he looked too happy and for that he was the chosen one....

An innocent death, a bizarre reason, a tragedy....

A day or two before the confession, balloons and flowers were placed at the spot where the young man was killed and the mayor led a walk along the river to mourne the lost of an innocent life.

Orange Sky

The sky of  this winter has been rather colorful and sometimes even spetacular. 

A walk by the river Po in the evening, quite often one is presented a beautiful sunset view with the colorful sky as background....

Reflection By The River

The melted snow formed lot of ponds of water everywhere, as a passionate reflection photo maker, it was a good opportunity for me to search out for these ponds to try to create some satisfying images.

This image was made on the muddy road along the river, the sun was pretty low, the pond was large enough and I had Max as a model standing in the center of the composition.

Welcome Back The Mandarin Ducks

So happy to see a group of this little mandarin ducks still active at the river Po, was a bit worry not seeing them around last year. Being the more beautiful and smaller ducks, they are often being bully by the bigger birds such as the gullls. Once I saw a gull was chasing after one of this beautiful creature, almost made me wanted to throw a stone to send the gull away.

Hope these mandarin ducks would stay well and reproduce more on this side of river Po, they bring such joy to the view of the river.

Remember  that lone white goose which had mixed with the wrong group? It seems like it has finally found a partner, although it looks like both are females...anyway, at least lonely no more.

Is Autumn - Riding Through

The view along the river Po is beautiful in Autumn with the chnging color of the leaves and the orange yellowish of the fallen leaves covering the ground.

My annual Autumn walk along the river was as pleasant as before, the morning was quiet with occasionally some people walking their dogs, some joggers doing their morning run and some cyclists riding along and across the river, although there was the smog from the fire in Val Susa covering the sky, but the scenery was still very much enjoyable.

Reading The River

One of those days when one desires to get away from the city crowd and stays just alone with a bit of nature.....

The river side by the Po is the place to spend some quiet time watching the birds flying over the river and admiring the sunset....

Fishing In Po

Not sure about the quality of the fishes or even if they are edible.....

However, occasionally, people still try to fish in the river Po, maybe just for the thrill of fishing...

Yellow River Po

Week of rain had turned the river po into yellowish, overflown the banks and flooded the Murazzi. From over the other side of Murazzi, as though the yellow river of China had reached Torino, the Murazzi was half immerged in water and the yellowish river was jusy kept rushing through....

Luckily enough, it is over now and the lost boat ' Valentina' was also found.

Houses By The River

These houses near to the river Po, from this view seem to be in some places far from the town center, but they are actually just located a short distance from the center and the other side of the houses is a busy main road .

Rescuse Mission Valentini

The days of raining rasied the level of the river Po, the Murazzi along the river bank is basically immersed in water, running current brought down all kind of things on its way, including the two Valentini.

The Valentino and Valentina were the two boats which carried tourists for a tour on the the river along the Valentino Park, it was one of the tourist's favourite activity.

This morning, tragic happened, the two Valentini broke free of their chains and run away following the current.

They were blocked by  the Vittorio Emanuele I bridge, and stucked under the arch of the bridge.

Emergency rescuse was activated. 2 big cranes were setup to secure the two boats and to pull them to safety.

Unfortunately when Valentino was pulled to safety, Valentina slipped, hit herself on the bottom side of the bridge and overturned, then she was brought away by the merciless river, separated with Valentino forever.....

Once they were happy togther..... making people happy....
