The Stairs Of The Palazzo Della Luce

Palazzo Della Luce: the place that most pays homage to the splendor of the Belle Epoque and the seductions of the past with an eclectic and magnificent style

From hosting conferences to splendid candlelit concerts, the palace is a historical, artistic and cultural jewel that certainly does not go unnoticed given its imposing structure which occupies an entire city block.

The fascinating building was designed in 1915 by the architect Carlo Angelo Ceresa to house the new headquarters of the Cassa di Risparmio. It is defined by the people of Turin as "the little Madama" due to its resemblance to the Palazzo Madama in Piazza Castello and today it is an incredible event space that also hosts spectacular candlelit concerts.

And here is the stairs leading to the first floor of the palazzo.

Shapinside

The ShapInside exhibition opens to the public on Monday 4 March 2024 at Palazzo Bricherasio, institutional headquarters of Banca Patrimoni Sella & C.. Rabarama sculptures.

The monographic exhibition - curated by Daniela Magnetti, Artistic Director of Banca Patrimoni Sella & C., and created in collaboration with PhilART, a company that promotes art as a driver of cultural growth and social inclusion - hosts 14 sculptures by the artist Paola Epifani, also known as Rabarama, which will be exhibited in the exedras and courtly rooms of Palazzo Bricherasio, in via Lagrange 20.

The exhibition focuses on the concept of the dynamism of movement - understood as a retaliation for the static nature of matter, which needs to be shaped to transform itself - to offer a new vision of sculpture, the internal one, as also suggested by the title of the exhibition itself ( the neologism ShapINside which, if pronounced softly, produces an effect of sound circularity recalling the internal world of the shape).

Arte Alle Corti - Analgesia

An exhibition path of installations and sculptures of contemporary art, in the courts of the great historical palaces.

The exhibition of art in various courtyards in the city is back. After years of absence, probabely due to a mayor who was not so knee into art and culture, finally after the change of mayor, the exhibition is back.

The project includes 55 outdoor artistic works in 13 courtyards and 3 gardens, and an exhibition of artistic works on the main floor of Palazzo Birago di Borgaro. Widespread exhibition, dynamic art that develops outdoors, through 13 courtyards and 3 gardens of courtly and institutional Turin. Courts like galleries, like stages, like places of art, capable of getting involved and welcoming and communicating with artistic works. Art at the Courts is to be experienced as a walk en plein air, moving on foot and with a map in hand, along an ideal fil rouge that connects different points of the city center, through the courtly architecture. It is a way to get to know and take possession of an often unknown territory, albeit everyday and familiar, made obvious by the habit and inability to really look around. The project, in fact, is aimed first of all at the citizens themselves, as well as at tourists: a public invited to enter these wonderful treasure chests, transformed into open scenes thanks to art.

Arte alle corti is not only an international event of contemporary art, but can also be considered a tool with which to generate positive economic impacts through the expenditure that the public, citizens and tourists, will activate in the area along the urban art route. It is an event that can therefore generate socio-cultural, but also economic, impacts.

Novecento In Cortile

After 3 months of closing, due to the Covid-19, the museum Accorsi Ometto has finally re-opened. In its splendid courtyard there is an exhibition of  sculptures that pays homage to six great artists of the twentieth century, including the major international interpreters of post-war sculpture.

On display are the monumental Mercury (1980s) by Arman, one of the greatest exponents of the nouveau réalisme; the patinated bronzes Vertical tension (1963-64) and Sole deposto (1982) by Gio 'Pomodoro; the large terracotta Cavalcata interrotta (1990) by Paolo Borghi which well represents his poetics of reinterpretation of classical art and investigation of myth;

the majestic brushed steel Asteroide (2017) by Riccardo Cordero in which the abstract plastic form, a carefully designed structure, is placed in dialogue with the surrounding space, of which the work activates its physical reality;

the two large bronzes by Igor Mitoraj, Icaro alato (2000) and Luci di Nara petrificata (2014), which testify to the postmodern vision of the artist who, through the fractures present on the figure, alluding to the fragment and the ancient find, remind us of the situation of contemporary man with his fractures and his loss of identity; finally,

by Ivan Theimer, Tobiolo (1999), Tartaruga con Montagna (2004), Medusa (2005) and Arione con delfino (2008), four bronze works of different dimensions linked together by a single denominator: a solid classical structure that it echoes the myths represented by Greek sculpture, the Egyptian symbolism of the great Obelisks up to the Tuscan mannerism, where the human figure and the animal world play with each other in plastic symbiosis, to remind us that we are all part of a unicum.

It was delightful to be able to finally visit again the museum with this fantastic exhibition.

Pietre Preziose

In the Royal garden, a new art piece was installed among the woods. It the Pietre Preziose, the new work by Giulio Paolini for the Royal Gardens.

Pietre Preziose ( Precious stones ) is an installation that retrieves some original stone fragments of the Chapel of the Holy Shroud, the masterpiece by Guarino Guarini, arranged by Paolini on a kind of plant that evokes Guariniana, consisting of granite and lava stone inlays. In the center, the figure of an architect in eighteenth-century clothing that resembles the Dome, to evoke the Guarini but also, ambiguously, the artist.

Echo

Since 2005, in via Verdi, , just in front of the Palazzo Nuovo, stands the Marc Didou sculpture entitled "Echo".

The sculpture, made in bronze, depicts two faces, one up right, the other upside down.
Marc Didou, Breton sculptor, was inspired by the stone statue of Medusa which
guarded the ancient water cistern built in Roman times in Istanbul  and it is still functioning today.
In this Turin sculpture, water can not be seen, but feel, because by placing your ear to the statue, you can feels the murmur of an invisible stream
inside it, renders it mysterious and fascinating.

Tunnel Of Tree

This is Corso San Martino, looking towards the direction of the station Porta Susa where a modern sculpture is elected in the center of the roundabout.

In summer, the trees on both side of the road formed an arch covering the road, looks like a tunnel passing from piazza Statuto to the station.

Buffaloes Invasion

As part of the ' Arte Alle Corti ' , these Mediterranean buffaloes stand in the space in front of the entrance to the Royal Palace, making their welcome to the visitors of the palace.

The work of David Rivalta fixed a meeting between three different elements: the shape of the animal (in this case of buffalo sculptures, which naturally preserved their presence sacredness of innocent); the Piazzetta Reale, a known and justified place; and finally, all those who are confronted with these guests. Invasion presence of hoaxes pose a question about the identity of the place. Their meeting is an epiphanic experience of otherness and index of openiness.

Sbarco

Two enigmatic anonymous characters carrying a vessel overturned on their shoulders, with the head hidden within it. The two naked men (shipwrecked or not) are motionless and wandering. They are metaphysically bewildered figures at the end or beginning of a journey.

This art piece is a part of the Arte Alle Corti, placed in the courtyard of the University of Torino at via Po.....

The shining surface creates a beautiful reflection of the surroundings and their setup presents an enigma of their journey.....

By artist Velasco Vitali, the installation with its mirrored surface also involves the public and the reality that flow around, making them an integral part. Thus the architecture of the courtyard becomes a metropolitan horizon that is emerging along the bow of the canoe. A horizon that evokes, ideally, what the students look out in their university studies. A new world that will change their lives.

Silverman By The Wall

This silverman is standing against the wall in Piazziale Valdo Fusi, and of course the local graffiti artists never leave him alone, they just have to add in their markings.....and break some part of him.
