Pigeons On The Sword

This is the equestrian monument dedicated to Ferdinand of Savoy-Genoa It can be admired in the center of the Solferino square, it was built in bronze in 1877 by the sculptor Alfonso Balzico, and dedicated to Ferdinand of Savoy, Duke of Genoa, depicted with his sword drawn and his horse wounded, in memory of the bloody battle of Novara (known as " della Bicocca") of 23 March 1849, in strenuous defense from the Austrian invasion during the first Italian war of independence.

It is also a favourite spot in the piazza for the pigeons to hangout.

Lock Down The Eighteenth Day

Is sunny today!
Yesterday was the eighteenth day and was rainy. Regardless, we still had to go to the supermarket to top up food. Was better to go on Friday than Saturday to avoid long queue.
Went to the less queue one, which was also near to home.

We were the only one queuing up, so it was pretty fast to able to get in for our purchase. I waited outside so as not to take up the space for other people.

While waiting, decided to snap some photo with my phone. The supermarket was not the only shop opened, also a news stand was opened, somehow the news stands are considered essential, perhaps is because they also sell bus tickets.

At one moment, a police car was stopping while I was taking photo by the road side, it seemed that the police took a look at me, then decided that I was not worth the trouble to be checked on, so they drove off.

On the way home, noticed that there was actually a fresh fruits store opened under the arcade.
Anyway, there were more cars on the streets that I had expected.

CDP May Theme : Smell

At piazza Solferino, a special event was held there, a series of stalls promoting France products.
There was one particularly 'good smelling' stall which was selling soaps, beautiful, colorful and very fragrant soaps.

Obviously to choose the soaps, people started picking them up and smell them....

Everyone likes a nice smell.....

Some of the soaps they sell....

Giuseppe La Farina

Giuseppe La Farina  was an influential leader of the Italian Risorgimento. Minister of Cavour, was highly involved in Garibaldi's departure for Sicily. Ostensibly sent by Cavour to dissuade Garibaldi from going, he in fact did little of the sort. A nationalist at heart, he was believed to be one of the few to whom Cavour actually revealed his intentions regarding the Sicilian campaign and eventual unification.
