Street Art Appreciation

Occasionally there are artists displaying their works for sale under the arcade along various streets, transforming the arcades into an art gallery,

Last week, it was in via Roma, it did attract people stopping to appreciate their works. Not sure about the sale though.

Tables Out

Due to the Covid-19, restaurants need to ensure safety distance between tables, thus the number of tables allowed inside the resturants is significantly reduced.

To compense, more spaces are reserved outside the restaurants to allow them to setup tables for clients.

It seems that many restaurants are taking thing too far, there are no safety distance between the tables setup outdoor and many placed the tables up to edge of the piazza or streets, forcing pedestrians to walk on the road where cars pass.

Curiously enough, everyday, people complain that due to the Covid-19, works are affected and they can hardly make ends meet, however, almost everyday, the restaurants are full.

He rode his bycicles all the way to the river, sat himself down near close to the edge of the river and started to send his admiration for the river via instant messenger....

Dogs Pack

Saw this modern art installment in the courtyard of a building, not sure what building it is, but the installment is quite interesting. 

Seems to be a pack of dogs roaming around two abandoned cars. Or are those supposed to be wolves? They look pretty much like dogs...

Santuario della Consolata

The Santuario della Consolata or, in its full name, the Church of the Virgin of the Consolation is a prominent Marian sanctuary and minor basilica in central Turin, Piedmont, Italy. Colloquially, the sanctuary is known as La Consla. It is located on the intersection of Via Consolata and Via Carlo Ignazio Giulio. 

The church was originally built in the style of a basilica. Over the years the church and the icon were rebuilt and restored by various orders of monks. In 1448 the prior of Sant'Andrea expanded the church building one bay to the west. With the increased popularity of devotion to Our Lady of Consolation, the church changed from a parish to a shrine.

The interior has a jubilantly polychrome rococo decoration with colored marbles and solomonic columns. The Juvarra altar has two marble angels in adoration by Carlo Antonio Tantardini. The interior has a sculpture of two praying queens by Vincenzo Vela. Outside the church is a statue of a virgin and child on a column.
The church serves as a burial place for a number of saints affiliated with Turin: Giuseppe Cafasso and Leonardo Murialdo, as well as the Blessed Giuseppe Allamano, rector (1880-1926) and founder of the Mission Institute of the Consolata. Every June 20, a procession of the icon of the Virgin takes place in the streets of the city.

The church is an eclectic collection of architecture, and includes portions of an ancient Roman wall, a Romanesque bell-tower, a baroque set of domes, almost Byzantine, sheltering a gothic icon, with two porticos, one of which has Neoclassic severity. The clashing of Guarini's and Juvarra's often mathematical architecture with the highly decorated interior, stubbornly magnetic to a ritualistic popular piousness, leads to a modern synthesis with immanent overtones.

High Wall Short Skirts

As the weather gets warmer and the temperature rises, the shirts of the girls get shorter.  Seems it is the law of the universe.

Free K Pride

This year, due to the Covid - 19, the pride was cancelled. However, last weekend, there was another type of pride, matching across the center of the town. 

The Free K Pride as they called it, was to protest against all kind of discrimination.

Not sure what to think about a Pride match at this time of Covid - 19, as can be seen in the photo, there was no social distance and most of the participants were without masks.....

Good cause or stupid? Who can judge?

Vandalism

The statue of the king Vittorio Emanuele II at the town hall is stained with black paint and messages like ' BLM' were written around that area.
 I totally support 'BLM',in fact, I think all lives matter.

The protests lead to destroying statues, have becoming just pure vandalization. Many of these statues have historical value, as well as artistic value, by destroying them just stained the real purpose of the protest.

Panorama Piazza Carlo Alberto

Piazza Carlo Alberto is one of the historic pedestrianized squares in the center of Turin, located on the back of Palazzo Carignano. 
It is delimited by the streets: Cesare Battisti, Principe Amedeo and Carlo Alberto.

 On the south side of the square stands the eighteenth-century Palazzo Campana, the current university headquarters of the Mathematics department. During the whole period of fascism, it was the seat of the provincial federation of the National Fascist Party; the Duce on official visits to the city overlooked the small balcony on the side of the square.

On the opposite side of Palazzo Carignano and the equestrian monument of Carlo Alberto, stands the sumptuous building which now houses the National Library of Turin.

In the building on the corner of the square and via Carlo Alberto, on the side towards via Po, he lived between 1888 and 1889, in a room on the third floor, Friedrich Nietzsche, where he wrote his works The Antichrist, Il twilight of the idols and Ecce Homo: a plaque affixed by the Municipality remembers his stay in the city.

New Building

This new building is part of the University of Turin, the vertical green wall is very eyes catching and it does add some nature element onto the otherwise concrete environment.

Rain Again On Friday

After a couple of hot days, the rain approached and fell hard.

It is nice to have the temperature lowered, but the retaurants and bars are not too happy, as they have mostly placed their serving tables outdoor, since due to the ristriction, the indoor tables are hugly reduced.

I am quite happy to be able to find some interesting reflection to shoot.

A Normal day In The Market

The market has slowly gone back to normal, no more long queue to get in, but still some people are wearing masks and the price of fruits and vegetables has gone up with no reason.

CDP July Theme : Neighborhood

July theme : Neighborhood.

Staying in the center of the historical part of the city, meaning our's neighborhood consist of  the historical sites such as the old palaces of the kings and the queens....

The nearest ones are in piazza Castello, which is about 300 meters away.

The other end is the Madam palace, now a museum with some very fine collection.
