Last Day Of School

Apparently Friday was the last day of school before spring(?) break.

Here, the boys and girls were celebrating at piazza Castello, getting themselves wet.

I don't know when this tradition started...

Distorted Reflection

The reflection of the Duomo and its bell tower on the top of a parked car along the street.

The slightly curvy top of the car distorted the reflection of the tower in quite a funny and crazy way.

Last Rain In March

The last (almost) rain in March, it was quite a pouring for almost the whole day.

With the crowd of tourists came in for Easter hoilday and the non stop raining, the center was quite chaotic.

Let's hope the beginning of April is more calm and gentile.

Spring After The Rain

Two days no rain, are the rainy days over or soon will be back?

Walking past the garden, saw a pond of water on the path, so, just snapped a quick one.

From the photo realised that someone had lost a pacifier and Spring is coming.....

The pond should be gone by now....

A Pause From The Rain

Yesterday was a pause from the rain or the week long raining has finally stopped?

Anyway, I was wrong about the sky, we indeed got a blu sky, not completely clear, but definitely was very blue in most part of the day.

So, we had a walk and got these shots at the entrance to the park at the ancient roman gate, Porta Palatina.

Still Raining

Still raining, Sunday was a non stop 24 hours rainy day.

It was not so convenient to get out to do photo shooting, so, here is an old photo from the previous rainy season.

I doubt that today we are going to have some blue sky....like this.

A Little Break From The Rain

Today the rain has stopped for a while, giving us a little break from getting wet when we are out.

Of course, there are ponds of water here and there, which are perfect for making certain type of photo.

These photos posted here are shots from last year, but the situation is more or less the same...

Reflected In Royal Garden

Part of the Royal Garden is still under renovation since closeing it's gate to public in the year 2000.

Still, it is rather nice to take a walk in the other part which is opened to public, especially in these hot days.

The occasionally pour doesn't actually reduce the heat, but it does leave over some pond of water here and there ideal for making photo of reflection.

Rain Again On Friday

After a couple of hot days, the rain approached and fell hard.

It is nice to have the temperature lowered, but the retaurants and bars are not too happy, as they have mostly placed their serving tables outdoor, since due to the ristriction, the indoor tables are hugly reduced.

I am quite happy to be able to find some interesting reflection to shoot.

Piazza San Carlo Reflected

Piazza San Carlo reflected on a pond of rain water at via Roma after a sudden storm.

The daily storm in the last few days had damped the crowd of people rushing onto the street at certain time.

In the photo, the piazza seems to be quieter....

Sudden Pour

It seems everything is slowing going back to normal, as the weather too. Normally in Turin, rains love to come on weekends, during the lockdown, the few weekends were rather warm and dry, and today, while many people were out doing shopping and meeting up with friends, suddenly the rain came.

The sudden pour left the streets wet and making them look fresh and clean.

San Lorenzo

The Royal Church of Saint Lawrence (Italian: Real Chiesa di San Lorenzo) is a Baroque-style church in Turin, adjacent to the Royal Palace of Turin. The present church was designed and built by Guarino Guarini during 1668-1687.

The Duke Emmanuel Philibert, Duke of Savoy was one of the leaders of the Habsburg armies of his cousin Philip II of Spain; they decisively defeated the French armies in the Battle of Saint-Quentin in Northern France on 10 August 1557, the Feast of St. Lawrence (San Lorenzo), which affected the outcome of the Treaty of Cateau-Cambrésis; in which, the Savoy, including Turin, was returned to the rule of the mercenary duke. That the Battle occurred on the Saint's feast instigated Phillip's denomination and design of the palace of El Escorial. Emmanuel Philibert, on his return to Turin in 1562, renovated the old ducal chapel of Santa Maria ad Presepae, which is still present near the entrance, and erected this church dedicated to St. Lawrence. Construction of the contemporary church began in 1634.
The architect Guarino Guarini was a great innovator in Baroque principles first developed by the great Roman Baroque architect Francesco Borromini, in particular the play with optical effects and organic "deconstruction" of the classical orders and principles of column and entablature. However, in San Lorenzo Guarini took these further. The ground plan is a kind of square which becomes an octagon at the level of the entablatures above the columns only to change again to become a Greek cross at the level of the pendentives of the vaults. Again, the base of the dome is circular in plan yet the lantern above it octagonal. The dome itself is supported by eight ribs forming a lattice similar to those found in mosques and Romanesque churches in Spain. To this superposition of - by the standards of convention - contradictory central plans is added an elliptical choir. The high altar, separated from the nave by a convex and concave archway receives natural light from a hidden dome, devices drawn from the other key Roman Baroque architect Gian Lorenzo Bernini.

Sir, Are You Looking At Me?

I love taking reflection especially on water, whenever there is a pond of water on the ground, I will bend down and try to see if the reflection of the surrounding is interesting to snap a photo.

In via Garibaldi, just after a rain, the reflection seemed interesting enough for a shot, so i did what I like to do.

Didn't actually pay attention to the man standing there facing in my direction. Was he looking at me?

Via Antonio Meucci

Via Antonio Meucci is where I go when I need my teeth to be taken care of, the open space in front of the dentist's studio was a car park, now the center row has been converted into pavement with benches and street lamps, making the space less parking lots but more pesentable.

The photo was taken after a few days of raining, rain water was accumulated on the ground and created sort of a small lake....

Pond In Piazza Castello

Rain plus the water spreaded from the fountain has formed a rather sizeable pond almost right in the center of piazza Castello, reflecting the surrounding around the piazza....
